The short version

Golf Nerd Leagues (“GNL”) collects the minimum information needed to run your fantasy golf league. We don’t use third-party analytics, we don’t track you across the web, and we don’t sell your data to anyone. The cookies we set are essential for keeping you logged in. Read on for specifics.

What we collect

When you create an account or use the Service, we collect:

  • Account info: your email address, display name, chosen username, and password (stored as a one-way hash by our auth provider — we never see your plain password).
  • League activity: your team names, draft picks, weekly picks, One & Done picks, league memberships, and the leagues you create or commission.
  • Platform progression: your GNerds totals (lifetime + per-season), GNL Handicap, skill tier, and the activity feed used to compute them. These derive from your league activity and tournament results.
  • Chat messages: text you post in a league’s chat, plus reactions and replies, are stored alongside the league. Visible to other members of the same league. Commissioners can moderate or delete messages in their leagues.
  • Email preferences: which kinds of emails you’ve opted into or out of (welcome, weekly digest, OAD pick reminders, draft reminders, withdrawal notices, commissioner reminders, payment recovery), and the engagement signals our email provider sends back (delivered, bounced, marked as spam) — used to keep our sender reputation healthy and to stop emailing addresses that bounce or complain.
  • Payment records: when you pay GNL directly (subscription or service fee), our payment processor returns transaction metadata we store for accounting and refund purposes — amount, currency, date, payment-method type (e.g., “Visa ending 4242”), promotion code used. We never see or store the full card number.
  • Server logs: routine technical data sent automatically by your browser, including IP address, user-agent string, and timestamps. We use these for troubleshooting, security, and to keep the Service running.

We don’t collect government IDs, full financial information, health data, or precise location.

What's public on the Service

Some account information is visible to other GNL users by design — the Service is partly social. Specifically:

  • Your username, display name, GNerds totals, handicap, and tier appear on the public leaderboard at /leaderboard and on your public profile page at /u/<username>.
  • Your team names, draft picks, weekly picks, and standings are visible to other members of leagues you join or commission.
  • Your username + finish in public games (Public Picks reveal, Public Draft results, Public Season standings) is visible to anyone — these are community surfaces.

Your email address, payment information, and account settings are never shown publicly.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  • Operate the Service — let you log in, run your league, and see results.
  • Send transactional and operational emails — account confirmation, password reset, welcome, weekly digests, One & Done pick reminders, draft reminders, commissioner reminders, golfer-withdrawal notices, and payment-recovery / removal notices — subject to your email preferences.
  • Communicate with you about the Service when you reach out to us, or in rare cases when we need to alert you about changes that affect your account.
  • Keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and debug issues.
  • Improve the Service — for example, by reviewing aggregated, non-identifying usage patterns.

We don’t sell your information, we don’t share it with advertisers, and we don’t use it to build a profile that follows you elsewhere.

Who we share it with

We share information with a short list of service providers that help us run the Service. Each is contractually bound to use your information only for the services they provide to us:

  • Cloud database & authentication provider — hosts your account information and league activity.
  • Transactional email provider — receives your email address and the body of any email we send to you.
  • Web hosting & serverless compute provider — sees server logs (IP address, user-agent) for any request to the Service.
  • Payment processor — handles checkout and billing for any paid features. Receives your name, email, billing address, and card details. We never see or store your card number.
  • Public golf statistics provider — supplies tournament fields and results. We send no personal information; we only consume their public data feed.
  • Web font CDN — when your browser loads pages, it requests font files from a content-delivery network. Your IP address and user-agent are visible to that provider in the request, the same as on any site using a hosted font CDN.

We may also share information when required by valid legal process, when needed to protect rights or safety, or in connection with a sale or merger of the business (in which case we’ll notify you before your information moves).

Cookies & local storage

We use the minimum cookies needed to keep you logged in and to keep the Service working. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or tracking pixels.

  • Authentication cookies: set by our auth provider to keep your session active. Required to use the Service.
  • Local storage: we store a few short-lived keys in your browser to make multi-step flows (sign-up, pick selection, redirect after email confirmation) work across page reloads, and to remember small UI preferences (e.g., whether you’ve dismissed our sign-up prompt). Examples include gnl_pending_redirect, gnl_pending_pick, and gnl_landing_signup_dismissed. These contain no personal information beyond what’s needed for the immediate next page load and clear themselves after use.

Because we don’t use non-essential cookies, you don’t need to manage cookie preferences with us. You can clear cookies and local storage through your browser at any time.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information and league activity as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we’ll delete or anonymize personal data within 30 days, except where we’re required to retain it by law (for example, payment records once we begin accepting service fees).

Server logs are retained for a short period (typically less than 30 days) for troubleshooting and security.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Update your account info — display name, email — from your account page.
  • Manage email preferences — opt in or out of any non-essential email type from your account page. Every email also includes an unsubscribe link.
  • Request a copy or deletion of your data — email support@golfnerdleagues.com and we’ll help.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you specific rights including the right to know, delete, and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise your CCPA rights, email the address above.

If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, the GDPR/UK GDPR gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Email us to exercise any of them.

Children

The Service is for users 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please email us and we’ll delete it.

Security

We use HTTPS everywhere, store passwords as one-way hashes, and rely on industry-standard cloud infrastructure for the heavy lifting. No system is ever 100% secure, but we work hard to keep yours from being the weak link.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top. For material changes, we’ll notify you by email or through the Service before the changes take effect.
